(Update: realized just after posting this I’d missed a great title. Fixed.)

The photographs of Detroit’s giant salt mine are replete with Jeeps and a few other trucks I’m not sure of. IDs appreciated.

Fix your headlight!

Probably a Willys Wagon, possibly a Jeep Truck. This photo reminds me I need to get back to my Jeep Grille series.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m a little embarrassed I can’t identify the trucks in this one. Any help?

I definitely recommend checking out the rest of the photos. A nice slice of history.

Second update: speaking of history, I’d never heard of this remarkable disaster in a Louisiana salt mine.

The one in the foreground looks like a Land Rover

Kinja'd!!!

And the background one looks like a Chevy based on the hood

Probably both right. I thought L and Ro ver but that seemed like such an odd choice to find underground in Detroit of all places  that I didn’t want to posit that.

I wonder if they have some sort of tours to the old mine

Out west, they have some old copper and silver mines you can still get into - just the tip of the mine but still cool.

I’ve been trying to convince Mrs PartyPooper to visit Detroit, but she is having none of it

something something old and dilapidated

I would have loved to see the old packard bridge before it collapsed...

I have walked the Packard bridge and properties. We got chased by a huge pit bull. Security is all over the plant now.

The salt mine quit doing tours. Supposedly all of the old trucks and equipment are still down at bottom.

I am sure 40 bucks will buy you a packard plant tour if you really wanted it.

So much cool stuff to see around the country. All I ever see is the business side of this damn monitor.

I’ve written about the Lake Peigneur incident before. My favorite facts from the event are the record it set for the highest waterfall in the state (164 ft), and when the elevator was blown out of the shaft by the escaping air, it remained tethered to the winch and was seen  blowing in the wind like a giant kite.

Sounds like the start of a David Tracy story.
